| Very early on, Hubert de Givenchy
manifested a passion for fashion. At age 10, he visited the World's Fair in Paris and
returned filled with wonder from the Pavilion of Elegance, where 30 models of the most
famous French couture houses were presented. His mind was set: he would be a fashion
designer. On February 2, 1952, Hubert de Givenchy's dream came true: he opened his own
Maison de Couture and his first collection was an immediate success. In 1953, the young
designer met Audrey Hepburn, the incarnation of his ideal of femininity. Here began a 40
year long friendship, during which the actress became the brand's ambassador. His work,
and that of his successors, combines elegance and classicism with audacity and modernity. |
